about

The vibe switches to sensual for “Quiet Storm (The Love Scene)”.
This track is a duet between myself and trombonist Joe Beaty,
and is our improvisational take on the steamy 80’s R&B jams by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Zapp, Janet Jackson, the Isley Brothers, and such.

I approached this piece as if I was scoring for a love scene in an 80’s movie, like maybe Spike Lee’s School Daze. The drums strut their stuff, the bassline burbles with anticipation and desire while the synths wash over like the feeling of a lover’s touch. Meanwhile, the singing horns weave in and out together over the sultry groove. Credit goes to Joe for coming up with the background horn arrangements on this cut.
