about

The album closes out with “False Realities”.

This slab of raw uncut electro-funk fuses together elements from Miles Davis, Woody Shaw, Cameo, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, and more. While the rhythm guitar is obviously Prince inspired, the guitar leads are heavily influenced by Pete Cosey, best known for his innovations with Miles Davis in the mid 70’s.

Also, peep the trumpet dialogue I have with myself in the middle of the piece - micro phased muted horn on the left channel, echo drenched open horn on the right. That was fun.

It was a formidable challenge and a sheer joy making this album, and I'm glad to be able to share with you this very different side of my artistry.
It’s my hopethat this will stand as a unique contribution in the landscape of “jazz” trumpet and in music in general.
I hope you have as much fun listening to 80’s JOINT as I had recording it.
