about

“80’s Joint” kicks things off to a flying start with it’s Prince inspired LinnDrum grooves, endless synths, high flying trumpet, splashes of acoustic piano, and outlandish guitars. My aim with this song is to immerse listeners in as much 80’s indulgence as they can ask for and then turn it all on its head..

Prince and late period Miles Davis were my biggest inspirations for this track, but I also incorporated elements from Herbie Hancock, Thomas Dolby, DEVO, Oingo Boingo, Cyndi Lauper, and trumpet heroes Roy Hargrove, Woody Shaw, and Freddie Hubbard.

Let’s see how many references to all of these artists you can detect in this song, and make sure you stick around for the big finish…
